Thai Railways Online Booking

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO BOOK TRAIN TICKETS IN THAILAND?

Option 1:: Online Booking ( Currently only available from Bangkok ( Hua Lamphong ) and Chiang Mai Station

Please consider that especially in high season most seats are fully booked well in advance. Reservations are advised and somewhat essential if traveling to very popular destinations like Chiang Mai (Northern Thailand) or Surat Thani (Southern Beach access),
Especially for ‘Sleeper Service’ !
Reservations are also necessary during ‘Peak Periods’ like Public / National holidays (Chinese New Year or Songkram), Festivals, weekend travel (Friday-Monday) or even ‘Commuter Rush Hour’ (6-8 AM and 5-7 PM)…(Thai Holidays & Peak Travel Periods)

Option 2::
Bookings can be made in person at stations /booking agencies or on the phone via the central No.1690       (within Thailand)  orAdvance Booking Office,
Bangkok Station (Hua Lampong)
Tel. 0-2223-3762, 0-2224-7788, 0-2225-0300 Ext. 5100
Fax: 0-2225-6068, 0-2226-3656International Calls:  + 66 2 223 3762 and ……..

The SRT has tried to make ‘Advance Booking’ as easy as possible especially for popular destinations and busy periods. In fact, you can book tickets up to 60 days ahead at stations, and up to 30 days ahead online. It’s recommended to book as far in advance as possible for these ‘Popular Routes’ or during these ‘Peak Periods’. You should book at least a week ahead for ‘Popular Routes’ leaving from Bangkok, such as Chiang Mai or Surat Thani, at any time of year, especially for ‘sSleeper Services’.

For less-popular routes (to Thailand’s Northeast), you only need to book a few days ahead. In major Thai Railways Stations like Bangkok’s Hualamphong and Don Muang Stations, you can book tickets for travel between any stations in Thailand (not just from where you book the ticket).

    We are coming to Bangkok next week despite the floods. Can you advise us on the rail situation to southern Thailand? We have tried to contact you by phone but without success. Best wishes.

    • Dear Traveller,

      the rail lines to the South are suspended right now, for probably the next 2-3 days. Lines to the North are still in full operation.
